Jill Gardiner
is a social historian and poet. She first discovered lesbian oral history when she joined Brighton Ourstory Project, and was one of the editors of their pioneering book Daring Hearts: Lesbian and Gay Lives in 50s and 60s Brighton (QueenSpark, 1992). Among the interviewees were women who remembered the longest lasting lesbian club, who inspired her to gather more memories for her book From the Closet to the Screen: Women at the Gateways Club 1945-85 (Pandora, 2003), which was described as ‘fascinating and sometimes hilarious’ by the Observer. Also a poet, her collection With Some Wild Woman: Poems 1989-2019 was published by Tollington Press in 2019.
